Do you have a living will and power of attorney for medical desicions?

The Terri Schiavo mess is a sad sad chapter in the life of the Schiavo's and their family members. It is sad enough that this happened to Terri in the first place, let alone what has happened with her husband and the other members of the family for the last 8 years. Now to have Capitol Hill and President Bush get involved is hypocrisy of the highest sort.

To paraphrase this nation's founders, a government that wants to control how you live and die but won't allocate money for prevention or care is no government at all. They claim that Terri's civil rights are being violated and they are... by them sticking their dirty political noses into a private affair. Every senator and representative who voted for this law should be impeached for violating their oath of office (ie, to uphold the constitution) and for violating the Schiavo's civil rights (the right being the right of a married couple or domestic partnership to make medical decisions for each other).

It almost goes without saying that this could have been prevented if the Schaivo's had a Living Will in good standing. Terri was only 21 when her brain was damaged beyond hope of recovery, so it is never too soon to write on.

I know Stacey and I will be looking at just such a document as soon as we can.
